laughing in the autumn

rosie.jpg

and yesterday, in the late afternoon sun, rosie and i walked slowly through the hills of oakland. sometimes i find that walking a dog is one of the more peaceful and meditative things one could possibly do. i read yesterday that they have installed telephones on the golden gate bridge, that when picked up go directly to a suicide hotline. how strange the modernity of our world. i found myself thinking that perhaps they should have dogs roaming about as well, begging for affection from these broken souls. so many uses we humans find for our magnificent creations. as for this creation..... well. my absence has many reasons. first, i was really hoping to see that one post get up over 50. i'm silly like that. secondly, i've been quite busy with work and recording. third, sometimes {as those of you that have been here for a while have certainly noticed} i just don't feel like writing. fourth, with regards to the argument/discussion about globalization/corporate america, as i said before, i believe that granny d stated things just about as perfectly as could be stated...then of course followed up by our dear mr kiefer. i couldn't possibly have written any of it better than he. as the discussion devolved into a rather loose {at times tight and direct} assesment of my character and actions, i had/have no need whatsoever to get involved. with regards to john, it's like this: i disagree strongly with john's political opinions, but feel equally as strong that no one should be censored. as for his repeated personal insults, they mean nothing to me. they are incorrect, immature, and unnecessary...frankly, i think he is making a fool of himself, and i find it rather humorous. as for a person or people taking over my website? good god, how fucking absurd can you all be? but alas, they grey skies beg for my attention. the clouds will clear, the sun will break, and i will drive about watching the world spin.

" i don't know why i'm telling these things, these places, these moments, the smoke from those bonfires. nobody really needs to tremble at alien earthquakes and truly nobody cares about anyone else's youth. so i'm not asking for pardon. i'm in my usual place. i have a tree with so many leaves that although i don't claim immortality, i can laugh at you in the autumn."

COMMENTS

Well, I'll be, Pitcher and I had a similiar desire. I was truly hoping to see the posts get to or above 50. Ego is a wonderful thing. As for incorrect, immature, unnecessary; prove it. Stir things up. If it's your forum, say something provacative. As for making a fool of myself, I went into this with my eyes open. I don't know that the same can be said of you. And talk about the kettle calling the pot... This is just to easy. It is actually getting boring, watered down cardboard and all that.

Oh, and I love animals.

Posted by: John Rensing at September 4, 2003 09:58 AM

perhaps they might also reprint comic strips on the walls of the bridge. the underestimated power of humor to bring us back from utter despair, i think, is a force to be reckoned with.

Easy Pitcher, I don't know what you did to this guy, his family, or his farm in a past life, but looks like the axe he's looking to grind has been unearthed.

Johann Herman Rensing, Sr., and family left Rutenbrock, Kingdom of Hanover, Germany in 1830 and moved to Slagharen, Holland. In abt. 1833 he married (no record in Slagharen) Adelheid or Helena Adelheid Krueger or Kriger. In abt. 1838 they travled to Bremen. On 05 Nov 1839 they sailed for New Orleans. They landed on 27 Jan 1840, and traveled up the Mississippi to St. Louis, and from there to Damiansville, Clinton Co., IL. They bought a farm on section 24, and both died in Damiansville.

however, i may be hopelessly naive. hence my hesitancy at posting here.

Most Rensings' Live in Ohio, There is a little town in north eastern Germany called Rensing.

I'm curious Pitcher, do you consider yourself one of these broken souls the dogs were begging from?
Or were you the Superior presence watching over the masses? And Just where are these magnificent creations coming from? The Howard Roarks of the world.
I believe that by not responding you are actually abinding by one of your principles\ ideologies; pacifism. In that I commend you. But I alos believe pacifism to be a quick road to destruction. You once told me to my face that if the United States were to be invaded you would not fight back. Yet you benifit from living here. Hypocrisy and lack of a spine all rolled into one. So many things to say so litle time. I must get back to the manual labor I love so much. i love working outside. The sun beating down on me. testing me. i tear my skin on the rocks i must conquer. creating beauty with the natural resources available to me. sun sweat dirt blood.
Chow, all.

So you're a laborer John. Do you rush indoors on your smoke break to rire up the dial-up and rail on Pitcher?

Posted by: Ernest Frank at September 4, 2003 12:36 PM

Seems to me that if Pitcher was true in his political convictions he would put an end to the navel gazing and moderate this board as a discussion group, throwing out bones for all of you to chew on. The chances of the pond image being broken, though, are scarce.

ps-- the GGB phones have been there for some time and I think Pitcher's stray dog idea is about the most inhumane idea I've heard in years.

Posted by: casual observer at September 4, 2003 01:48 PM

Ernest you assume too much.

Casual Observer:

Pitcher's stray dog comment is what we call the use of irony to make a point. Read your Mark Twain.

Jefferson:
I too was in wonder at the new phones on the GG Bridge. Driving across with my family in the car (look out oy, here comes the self-importance) I began laughing at the absurdity of the idea. Then I was humbled by the very idea that people actually travel to a structure as beautiful as this bridge, to end their lives surrounded by beauty. How many of us hope that our lives will end in a beautiful setting? Does it matter whether natural, or self-inflicted? Do any of us really plan, or desire, to pass in filth and degradation? Then we were off of the bridge, creeping gently to Marin, and a Fejouada with family. Oranges and a black bean sauce made all the world softer.

Attacking the man, not the issue. Hmm. Pitcher, your prattlings are so fluffed up that there is little to no substance within them. You bitch about the recall situation being "bullshit" yet I'm sure you have called for the impeachment of Bush. I guess an "idea" can be an "important component" as long as no one implements it, yes? Well, as long as a private company doesn't get involved. Your ignorance of gov't shows in your statement, "but i wonder why nothing is being said in the media and judges quarters, about the fact that a private company was hired to bring in hundreds of employees to gather signatures."
Oh, My God. Where od I start? Somehow your fucked up mind relates media and Judges? Do you see some sort of correlation between the two Jeff? Just what should the judges do about something that was done completelely within the confines of the law?
As much as I detest the possibility that Arnold might be our next gov. , I don't know what " starring in overtly violent movies" has to do with anything. I seem to recall an overtly drunken movie in which you, Pitcher, starred. Should I judge you for that? I'll just judge the director. :)
Another point that has been eating me, so to speak. You need some psychotherapy. Any adult that essentially forces a girl friend to smell his saved toenail clippings is suffering from some sort of dementia. I can only guess at the sort of womnen that would break down and do this. But who know what went on at that moment, the mind boggles. Of course then you state that this is only "almost cruel" because you could never be cruel Jeff could you. You are cruel. Very cruel.
It seems that I have alienated myself quite a bit here. Good for me. I have always prefered people that know their center. Few if any here do. Like sheets in the wind. Some may have taken issue with you in the past but apparently were afraid of my language. It has been stated here that discourse with differing ideas or opinions is good, but it seem that no one actually thinks that. They just say it to sound intellectual. Fuckers make me sick. Good thing you like head Pitcher cause you get alot of it on this sight.
Most of you others are taking it up the ass. (great now they start calling me a homophobe)

Posted by: John Rensing at September 4, 2003 06:16 PM

oh, john, you are an absolutely atrocious speller (or perhaps typing too quickly)... and it is "ciao" not "chow." i am being tortured reading this shit.

Posted by: irene at September 4, 2003 08:12 PM

although, i'd like to add, not simply for the bad spelling. it's torture in many, many other ways.

Posted by: irene at September 4, 2003 08:13 PM

I'm typing in something of a frenzy so I apologize for the mistakes. As for Chow that was done on purpose, I would have assumed it would be obvious but I guess I need to take the intelligence level on this sight into account. When this ceases to be fun I'll move on, but these people are amazing.

Posted by: John Rensing at September 4, 2003 09:30 PM

I gotta admit that it would've been entertaining to see Pitcher bite back. Then again there's something to be said about taking the high road. Rensing, I've got a hunch that you're not the type of guy that would start shooting recklessly into the corn field because someone hit your car with a tomato. Fighting over the internet is what it is. I got an email once that I think sums it up fairly well: Fighting on the internet is like running a race in the Special Olympics. Even if you win, you're still a retard.

On the other hand, none of these posts would've reached the touted 50 without controversy.

Posted by: Trex at September 5, 2003 08:45 AM

I used to work a couple doors down from a man who recently jumped off the GGB and died. He had jumped off the brige 20 years earlier and lived. Apparently he thought it was a beautiful way to go becuase he tried it twice.

Posted by: kristina at September 5, 2003 10:18 AM

Trex, thank you for making me laugh.:)I honestly don't think I'm fighting, just having fun. As for a retard, well, I've been called worse.
Pitcher, I'd like to send you $50 bucks to help you on your way to Spain as a token of my goodwill. I know it's not a lot but it's a start.
Keep in mind that your site gets more attention now that ever before. I should be on the payroll.
Ciao (feel better Irene?) John

Posted by: John Rensing at September 5, 2003 10:47 AM

What a great idea John- you must have taken your meds this morning. I'd gladly contribute $50 to this fund. It's some of the best entertainment on the web and it shouldn't be free. Pitcher, please post a P.O. box where we can send our donations.

Posted by: Ernest Frank at September 5, 2003 11:02 AM

Excellent idea. Maybe everyone could donate a little and send the whole band to Spain.

Posted by: kristina at September 5, 2003 11:50 AM

Not so fast Kristina-

I think John is talking about a One Way ticket.

Pitcher, after much introspection and soul searching, I have come around. I want to be a welcome part of this websites community. I think, perhaps, I have treated you poorly and I would like to make amends. I know, I know, everyone is thinking, "Yeah, right, he's just gonna be an asshole again." I would like to have some polite, rousing political discussions (without cursing!) with everybody and not feel so alienated. I hope everyone can be supportive! And I feel that an apology may be neseccary. But first, I just have one question, a small matter really. I was brousing through the news this evening and came upon something that got me to thinking. Its just one question and I would appreciate it Pitcher if you could give it your attention and respond. If you only respond to one of my posts I hope that this would be it. Anyway...
Pitcher, do you feel grateful for the opportunities that being a citizen of this country has given you?
That's it, a simple question really.
And to show my goodwill to everyone else I would like to make a small contribution to all.
I would like to suggest a wine: Cinnabar's Mercury Rising. It is their proprietary bordeaux and is enchanting! Whether with red meat or a good french madrigal (cheese) it is intoxicating (pun intended). Reminiscent of warm ocean breezes and fuscia sunsets. Roses melting in your mouth with blueberry undertones, and for $16 dollars it can't be beat. Bon apetit!
Looking forward to your response Pitcher.
John

john,

as a fan of above the orange trees, i come here occasionally to see when the band plays next, what the band is up to etc. they play beautiful music. all of them.

you, are a fuckface. i believe you are entitled to your opinion...politically, morally, whatever. why rip on jeff pitcher? you are obviously very insecure and jealous. you only wish you could have people love something that you do. while i admit it is entertaining at times to read your opinions of american politics, it is not entertaining to read cruel insults at someone who works hard at what he lives to do. i am not poetic. i do not quote earnest hemmingway or mark twain. i do not read millions of books just to pretend to make me look smarter.

this isnt even about politics, this is about you being a waste of flesh you fuckface.

Posted by: fuckface at September 7, 2003 07:26 PM

Mr...ah, mmm, Fuckface, please try to understand, I am trying to make amends for my prior actions. I believe my above post illustrates my good intentions. I think I am begining to see the anger and vitriol within. I would only ask for some love and understanding. I didn't get hugged enough as a child. As for Pitchers ability, I would be the first to say that he plays guitar like nobodies business.
I await a response to my question with breatheless anticipation, Pitcher.
