centipedes and mosquitos and caterpillars
spent time this morning doing some field recording in the woods. i am amazed by how quickly we become acutely aware of things in the world around us, when we stop or slow down. i am reminded of bicycling across the country and the slowness of the desert. seeing things on the bicycle that i would never have seen in a car. this reality makes me want to go for a very long walk. perhaps across the US someday. or another wide (or tall) country.
so today sitting there listening and watching, i saw so many spiders that i stopped counting as it became impossible to keep track of which ones i had already counted. centipedes and mosquitos and caterpillars. i found myself wishing that i could somehow attach contact mics to the backs of these little creatures and record the world from their ears. wouldn't it be grand?
and now i go to get my own fingers in the dirt. the more houseplants i can find a place for, the better equipped for winter my soul will be. somehow, those dark days are just a bit brighter with something green living in my house. i wonder what the plants hear?

I'd suggest Chile, north to south.

I'd suggest a bowl of chile con carne instead. North to south, east to west, whatever. As long as it ends up in my belly. Let's do a field recording of dinner.
